Many people have the impression that heiress Paris Hilton is actually spoiled and does not work for a living, but actually, that is very wrong. They tend to assume that fact because that’s the image she often portrays in public, but in real life, she has been making her own money since she was 18 years old.

Back then, Paris used to earn her money by doing photo shoots for magazines. She even made money by simply appearing at night clubs and partying. But after the success of the TV show “Simple Life” and the release of a sex tape by her ex-boyfriend, Rick Solomon, she became very famous in the United States and worldwide.

Some people wonder why Paris is so famous and what she has done to gain the status of a celebrity. The truth is that she is an entertainer and a businesswoman. She constantly travels around the world to promote her Paris Hilton brand. Indeed, she is also making millions of dollars every year; therefore, she is far from being a “stupid blond girl.”

Aside from filming the Simple Life series, Paris has also acted in numerous movies. Most of them are low-budgeted films in order to practicing her acting skills. In summer 2006, Paris decided to launch her music career. A lot of people do not know this, but she is very serious about this music career, and it’s something that comes from her. Her debut single “Stars Are Blind” has become a smash hit, and it is one of the top singles of 2006. In late August 2006, her debut album “Paris” was released and within a week, 75 000 copies were sold in the United States and 150 000 copies worldwide. In fact, “Paris” hit #6 on the worldwide chart and on Billboards. So far, more than 500 000 records have been sold.

Of course, music and movies are not the only things that Paris does. She is also building her own empire and hopes to be bigger than her great-grandfather Conrad Hilton. She has launched a successful fragrance collection line with many perfumes for women and men. She even has her own video game titled “Diamond Quest” which is produced by Gameloft.

She has played in a lot of films, mostly bit parts but her most remarkable interpretations are represented by the ‘House of Wax’ and the reality show ‘The simple life’. Along with Nicole Richie, daughter of esteemed singer Lionel Richie, she entertained the whole world, showing that she could face up or at least try deal with the simple country life.

For four seasons, the two girls went through a series of adventures, drawing millions of people in front of the television. ‘The simple life’ only helped to enhancement of Paris Hilton as a widely known celebrity. They had to move in with the Leding Family in Altus, Arkansas for one month and undertake a serious experiment. The experience proved to be more than amusing; the girls didn’t manage to get their hands dirty.

Sex Video? Check. Blonde hair? Check. Lots of money? Check. Welcome to route one to launching a celebrity career. Paris Hilton's famous "one night in Paris" video seems to have done little to harm her career. Is this perhaps due to the artistic night vision camera work that seems to take its influence from "Silence of the Lambs"? Or perhaps its down to the fine acting?

It is easy to stereotype Paris Hilton as a rich blonde airhead with all the personality and charm of a Skoda. Whilst Paris certainly isn't the next Mother Teresa nor is she the next Jenna Jameson. Apart from her video Paris is famous for appearing in tv series "The Simple Life". The premise of this show is that two rich girls learn what it is like to live with "ordinary" people whilst having their credit cards and other luxuries taken away. To be fair to Paris she doesn't show the obnoxious arrogance that you would expect from a rich girl. She does demonstrate a certain charm and humility. In doing so she gets her audience believing she is just an ordinary girl after all. The social faux pas she makes are generally more down to naivety than malice. Although she seems harmless you get the impression that the show is just a game to her and she is playing all the time. Would Paris go back and work on a farm if she weren't being paid to be there? Probably not. Perhaps then this is social awareness born out of financial greed.

The problem is that Paris knows that no matter what happens her fortune won't go away she can always fall back on it. Its like swimming in the sea when you're little and you know your dad is just a few metres away ready to save you if you falter. That safety net is ever present and removes the risk out of a lot of what Paris does. She will let herself be subjected to working on a farm but knows ultimately that show will end and she will go back to her mansion. The worst thing that could happen would be that the show gets panned. An ordinary person who makes a mistake at work risks getting fired and that affects their livelihood and their existence.
